Directions to the Library

The library is just off Route 201 in downtown Skowhegan. It is located at 9 Elm St. next to the Skowhegan Savings Bank.

Weather and Other Closures

When the schools are closed due to inclement weather, the library is also closed. The library may also close on short notice in an emergency or at staff discretion. The library is also closed on all federal holidays, as well as on Patriot's Day, the day after Thanksgiving, and the week of Christmas. Notice will normally be given on the library's webpage and Facebook page for any closures or late openings.

Sign-Up for a Library Card

FREE library cards to any children in RSU #54 service area (Canaan, Cornville, Mercer, Norridgewock, Skowhegan, Smithfield) including home schools and private schools.

 

FREE library cards for all Skowhegan residents and/or Skowhegan property owners.

 

Adult non-residents and non-RSU #54 area students may checkout books for an annual fee of $25.00.

 

Proof of identification is required in two forms; with one item being a photo I.D., and the other a utility bill, tax bill, etc. with the person's correct mailing address on it.

Library cards are not necessary for use of computers or for attendance to most programs.

Loan Periods

All items may be borrowed for three (3) weeks, except Reference and Genealogy items, which are to be used in-library only. Any item, except new releases or items that are on hold for another patron, may be renewed for another period of three (3) weeks.

Overdue Materials

*NO OVERDUE FINES*

As long as items are returned in good condition, the library does not charge any sort of overdue fees. Items that are damaged or lost entirely are subject to replacement fees. If an item's return or replacement fee is refused by the patron, that patron will lose library privileges, including the use of computers, until the matter has been resolved with library staff.
