Genealogy
In 2002 the Skowhegan Public Library opened the Genealogy Room to house its collection of local and state resources. It includes over 125 town histories, more than 60 family genealogies, volumes on the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, the "Maine Families in 1790 " series, "Sprague's Journal of Maine History," and many others. "The Independent Reporter/The Somerset Reporter" for the years 1897-1987 is available on microfilm. The collection also includes Louise Coburn's copies of local obituaries/social notes and an assortment of newspaper clippings on various Maine towns, and many other items of interest to local genealogists. New volumes, including various vital records before 1892, have been added in addition to numerous contributions from individual genealogists. We appreciate and welcome contributions to our collection. The collection does not circulate, but a photocopier is available for fifteen cents per page. A volunteer will answer questions about the collection received by email or phone, or assist those who visit our Genealogy Room if prior notice is given. The Genealogy Room is open during regular library hours. Come in and research your family history, local history or just browse. For a brief List of our Genealogy Resources Click Here Resources |
